I have a very limited budget. What's the cheapest equipment I can buy that will give me a good quality recording?

In an emergency you will be able to get acceptable recordings using your mobile phone, or similar portable device, or a fairly cheap voice recorder designed for recording meetings or lectures.

However, buying anything less than a dedicated digital sound recorder is a false economy in the long run. In 2016 an entry-level sound recorder of good quality costs anything from £65 upwards and we refer you to our equipment page for examples and further information.
