When I record from mini-disc to CD or cassette it sounds awful. What can I do to stop getting lots of background hiss and low volume?

There is probably nothing wrong with your equipment. The most likely cause is that you have the output of the mini-disc set to the wrong level. Check that the volume on the minidisc is set to maximum.

If the option exists, set the Audio Out option to Line Out rather than Headphone and you should notice a significant improvement. The Headphone option is set with a low volume to protect your hearing.

If trying to record from minidisc to computer, you may have plugged the minidisc into the wrong input on the soundcard.
