What the Collection ContainsThe series of compilation recordings comprising a wide range of named
topics, encapsulating life during the early 20th century. Aspects covered
include views of different districts of Leicester and some of the villages
of Leicestershire. Leicester shops and market, trams, railways, theatre
and music hall are some of the themes covered. Others include industry
and agriculture, personal experience of employment, unemployment, aspects
of wartime life, education, politics and holidays. These accessible extracts
provide a useful introduction to the main collection as well as being
a useful place to start general oral history research. The main Leicester
