Interviewing for Research

This website looks at the basic practicalities of conducting one to one semi-structured or unstructured interviews. The menu on the left appears on each page and links to the main pages, while the site map links to each individual section on the site. This site is intended as an introduction to interviewing and there are suggestions for further reading in the Other Information section. As well as text, the site contains photos, audio and video clips, and links to websites. Each page may be downloaded as a Word document or a .pdf file.

To listen to the sound your PC will need a soundcard and you will need headphones or speakers which are plugged into the computer. If you are having problems with this, refer to our help page.

This website was developed by Colin Hyde of the East Midlands Oral History Archive at the Centre for Urban History. Information about using video equipment was provided by Jon Shears of the University's Audio Visual Services.

This resource has been funded by the University of Leicester's Learning and Teaching Committee and must not be hired, rented or sold for profit.
