The first of the two interviews below was recorded by Melton Carnegie Museum as part of an oral history project all about sport in the area of Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire. The second interview was recorded as part of a Lincolnshire Village Archive Group oral history project in Woolsthorpe and Colsterworth.

    In this extract, a sporting journalist describes a local awards evening he organises every year for talented sports men and women form the area. Since Melton Mowbray is lucky to have links with some big sporting names, he tries to invite a famous face or two to each event to give the guests the star treatment for the evening.

    In this extract, our interviewee describes a recent charity bike ride that she completed on behalf of Children in Need, which took her from Leicester, through much of the East Midlands, and 'finishing-up' at the Vale of Belvoir (pronounced locally as 'beaver').
