Following the success of last February's Postgraduate Open Evening, which attracted over 400 students, the University of Leicester's Graduate School will be hosting a similar event on Tuesday 28 November from 4 pm to 7 p.m. in the Belvoir Suites, 2nd Floor Charles Wilson Building.
The event will provide an excellent opportunity for people throughout the region who are interested in postgraduate studies to find out about the wide range of opportunities, including full-time, part-time and distance learning courses and research degrees, offered by the University.
Prospective students will be able to discuss particular programmes with the staff teaching them. Current postgraduate students will also be on hand to answer questions and provide a student perspective.
Those attending will have the opportunity to participate in four workshops designed to help them plan for postgraduate study:
4.30-5.00 Why take a postgraduate course?
5.00-5.30 How to make a strong application for a postgraduate course.
5.30-6.00 Funding opportunities for taught postgraduate courses in the humanities, law, and the social sciences.
And also at 5.30-6.00 Taught postgraduate courses in the sciences at Leicester.
The Graduate Dean, Professor Graeme Barker said: “Postgraduate students are enormously important for the intellectual life of any university, and we are very fortunate at Leicester to have a particularly strong and vibrant postgraduate community. More than 9000 students – over 50 per cent of our total student population - are registered as postgraduates with us.
"We offer an excellent range of courses fully embedded in the research expertise of our staff, and designed for students with very different career interests and study needs. The Postgraduate Open Evening is designed to inform our own finalists and other potential students within the region about the opportunities for postgraduate study at Leicester.”
The Postgraduate Open Evening is one of a number of events which the Graduate School is organising over the next few weeks to support postgraduate activity across the University.
