Gerald Porter has recently taken up a new appointment as Director of Studies at the Institute of Lifelong Learning. Gerald comes to this exciting position having been involved in Adult and Continuing Education for over seventeen years, both as a part-time tutor and Manager in Community Education in Northampton.
He graduated from the University of Leicester in 1976, through Nene College, later completing a Master's Degree with the University in 1989. He has worked at Northampton College of Further Education as Community Education Development Officer within Northampton.
He is very committed to Lifelong Learning and is planning three new certificate courses for the new academic year together with an expansion of the curriculum and the programme at the Centre.

Official duties apart, Gerald Porter continues to be a committed artist. He first trained as an artist at Gwent College, later obtaining a post-graduate diploma in art at De Montfort University.
He specialises in watercolours, preferring to paint landscapes. He is well-known as a teacher and exhibitor (he has exhibited at the Mall Galleries in London, the United Society of Artists' exhibition, Vaughan College, and the Northampton Centre), and his paintings have been purchased by the Universities of Exeter, Birmingham, and Leicester (Vaughan College).
