Research

English at Leicester is an internationally-recognised centre of research excellence across a comprehensive range of scholarly activities and chronological periods.

Current projects include 'Vulnerability: A Research Method for Literary and Cultural Studies', 'Reimagining the Restoration: Samuel Pepys and Popular History for the Twenty-First Century', 'Representing gender-based violence: literature, performance and activism in the Anglophone Caribbean', and the Dickens Code.

Recent projects include Wordsworth 2020, in collaboration with the Wordsworth Museum, Colonial Countryside, in collaboration with the National Trust, and Joe Orton: 50 Years On, partnered by Curve Leicester and others. These projects have been supported by funding from the AHRC, Arts Council England and the National Lottery Heritage Fund.

We are home to the Victorian Studies Centre and the Centre for New Writing. Colleagues from the School are also members of the Medieval Research Centre and the Centre for American Studies.
