Commendation for Leicester Learning Technologist

Work by Terese Bird receives recognition from Association for Learning Technology

Terese Bird from the Beyond Distance Research Alliance has been ‘Highly Commended’ in the Association for Learning Technology’s Learning Technologists of the Year Awards.

Terese was recognised for her work in leading and supporting ‘a number of successful and important learning technology projects’. The judges highlighted her involvement in the Learning Futures festival ; the Duckling Project which established effective methods of converting course notes for display on Ebook readers and the Graduate School Media Zoo . The judges were impressed by

• The breadth of Terese’s work in the use of learning technology;

• The value for money that her work represents;

• The openness and self criticality that her work displays.

On hearing of her award Terese said “I’m thrilled about this recognition from the Association for Learning Technology. I really like the fact that they commented on the “value for money” aspect, which reflects our philosophy at the Beyond Distance Research Alliance of “low-cost, high-impact” innovation, which is so crucial in the current economic climate.”

The Association for Learning Technology’s (ALT) Learning Technologist of the Year Awards recognise excellent practice and outstanding achievement in the learning technology field. In 2009 the ALT named the Beyond Distance Research Alliance as joint winners of the Learning Technologist of the Year Team award .
