Two accolades in a row for creative writers

Writing group at Vaughan College is commended for their second anthology

Issued on 24 August 2010

An anthology of poetry by a creative writing group based at Vaughan College has been Highly Commended in the National Association of Writers' Groups annual awards.

The accolade follows the success of their first anthology which won first prize in the same awards in 2007.

Poetry anthology Off the Wall contains a selection of works by the members of Vaughan Writers, a writers’ group formed from graduates of the Creative Writing course at Vaughan College. The College, part of the University of Leicester’s Institute of Lifelong Learning, also published the anthology as a Vaughan Paper.

It is the latest of two highly praised anthologies that the group has published since forming in 2005. The first, Against the Wall, a collection of prose and poetry, received first prize in the National Association of Writers' Groups awards.

Chairperson of Vaughan Writers, Wendy Edmond, said, “The members of Vaughan Writers are delighted to have won a commendation, from the National Association of Writers Groups, for our second anthology Off the Wall - and hope this may prove that we aren't a one-book wonder! To have what we do recognised in this way is very motivational, and we are looking forward to the new academic year.”

Off the Wall is on sale, priced £10. To order please go to the Institute of Lifelong Learning web site: www.le.ac.uk/lifelonglearning. Copies of the first award-winning collection, Against the Wall, are still available from Vaughan College at the special price of £5.00 to those connected with Vaughan College or the University of Leicester.
