Events

We are proud to host and support events celebrating diversity and raising awareness of issues faced by marginalised and minoritised groups. We work collaboratively with our Students’ Union and Staff Equity Fora to listen to community voices and lived experiences to inform our work.

Black History Month

Takes place every October and is recognised with a programme of events for our staff and students that promote the history, experiences and achievements of our Black student and staff community.

International Day of Disabled People

Held each year on 3 December, a United Nations sanctioned date when we celebrate the achievements and contributions of disabled people, raise awareness of disability inequity and promote the rights of disabled people.

International Women’s Day

Celebrated on 8 March each year. A programme of events where we recognise the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action to advancing gender equity in every dimension of human life.

LGBT+ History Month

Takes place annually in February. This month-long celebration and recognition of experiences and identities provide a chance to recognise the achievements, history and contributions of the LGBT+ community, raise awareness of LGBT+ inequality and promote the rights of the LGBT+ community.

Leicester Pride Festival

Takes place at the beginning of September each year. The University is proud to attend the festival and parade in celebration of equity and diversity in the city’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT+) community.

Holocaust Memorial Day

On 27 January each year, Holocaust Memorial Day is a day of reflection and respect for those who have been killed or have faced unfathomable suffering through genocides that have taken place around the world - from the Nazi persecution of Jews in the Second World War, to the atrocities committed in Bosnia, Rwanda, Darfur and Cambodia. We work with the City Holocaust Memorial Day Committee to support an event.

We also mark a wide range of dates throughout the year that are important to our diverse community.
