London, including with the world famous guitarists Julian Bream and John
by The Times for their virtuoso
technique and “eerie powers of ensemble”, their recital at the Richard
Attenborough Centre will feature some of the best-loved music in the guitar
repertoire, including works by Vivaldi, Rossini, Albeniz and Rodrigo.
Katona Twins are the first in a series of young musicians to be featured at the
Richard Attenborough Centre over the next three years.
They will be followed on Saturday 8 February 2003 by Hakan
Vramsmo (Baritone), winner of the Wigmore Hall International Song
Competition in 1999 and the Stuttgart International Lieder Competition in 2001;
on Saturday 15 March 2003 by Elizabeth Couling (Oboe), concerto finalist
in the BBC Young Musician of the Year 2000;
and on Thursday 22 May 2003 by Alison
Balsom (Trumpet), brass finalist of the BBC Young Musician of the Year 1998
and prizewinner at the Maurice André International Competition, Paris.
Tutor for Music at the Richard Attenborough Centre Philip Herbert said:
“These young and gifted artists have something very special to offer an
audience, through their ability to communicate and make music of the highest
possible order. This series seeks to
celebrate their achievements in their youth and offers Leicester audiences a
chance to hear them as they continue to further develop their skills as
of these artists go on to do great things, including joining the BBC’s New
Generation Artists’ scheme, where they are encouraged to work with musicians
of similar outlook in playing solo recitals, chamber music, broadcasts and
Commercial Service and Sales Centre will exclusively sponsor four concerts per
year for three years under the banner “A New Musical Generation”.
Communications Manager Andy Milner said: “High quality people are at
the heart of our business, especially here in Leicester where we are one of the
largest employers. HSBC’s sponsorship of concerts at the Richard Attenborough Centre
will be an ideal way for the bank to put back into the community locally while
enjoying an ongoing association with quality and talent.”
