University of Leicester Invites Students and Parents to Visit
23 October 2002
University of Leicester is staging an Open Day on 23 October, allowing
prospective students, parents and teachers to visit the campus and view
University, rated as one of the top three in the Midlands (Sunday Times,
2002), will allow visitors to sample the many and varied courses and facilities
and Colleges Liaison Officer Jacky Wetzig said: “The day is well structured to
include a wide range of activities and displays, beginning with an introductory
talk and tour of the campus by current students.
Throughout the day the Admissions Tutor or representative from each
undergraduate course will provide an outline of what their course and department
can offer. Visitors can hear about
student life from students, and receive some reassurance on managing a student
budget, safety and other topics of concern from staff in the Welfare Office. A
talk on completing UCAS forms will be available.
These talks prove very popular at Open Days, and seats are available on a
first-come, first-served basis.”
forms and the programme for the day are available on the University website www.le.ac.uk
and can be completed and forwarded on-line.
Almost a third of all bookings were received this way for Open Days,
demonstrating that prospective students are increasingly searching the Internet
for information on where to study.
Wetzig added: ‘The
Autumn Open Days attracts a large number of students still in the process of
completing their UCAS applications for year 2003 entry.
They tend to be individual students rather than large school parties,
which shows commitment on their part.
Days have become increasingly important to prospective students and their
families; the rising costs of going to university and the intense competition
for places means it is vital that visitors are able to investigate all that the
University of Leicester has to offer.
hope that last year’s total of 800 visitors will be easily surpassed.”
