Tigers to Host Varsity Match
Battle lines are drawn and teams are sharpening their technique for the forthcoming clash between Leicester’s two universities’ rugby teams, as part of the University of Leicester 80th anniversary celebrations.
Leicester Tigers is to be the prestigious venue for the Rugby Union game between the University of Leicester and De Montfort University on Friday 3 May at 7 pm.
The bar will open at 5.30 pm, with generous sponsorship from Everards, who will supply cheap beer all round, as well as food for the teams and a match trophy.
Whoever wins, celebrations following the match promise to go with a swing, with live music from the band Rock Bottom throughout the evening until the bar closes at 11 pm.
Two Tigers-sponsored mopeds are available to be won – one by the university which sells most tickets and the other as a raffle prize.
Tickets costing £3 are on sale from the Leicester Tigers, local Everards pubs and from the Students’ Union at both the University of Leicester and De Montfort University. Fans are urged to arrive promptly as spectators will be on the Crumbie Stand, maximum capacity 8,000, which is not all seated.
Mr Colin Hide, University of Leicester Sports and Recreation Manager said:
“Games between the two university are always tight thrilling games with no quarter asked or given. Both teams are very strong this year and we look forward to a great game in May.”
