Guy Hoh was a popular winner and the cheers echoed as he received his award from soccer legend and Chairman of the English Sports Council, Trevor Brooking.
A committed member of the University Rifle Club for the past five years, Guy is the club's armourer and currently coaches members at their weekly club sessions. He is also a match referee and member of the senior referee’s list for the county.
He has been shooting since the age of twelve and was introduced to the sport by his father. He first started shooting competitively when he came to the University of Leicester.
In the autumn of 1999 Guy was selected to represent Leicestershire at the National Clay Pigeon Championships. He and his nine team members shot to win the tournament and went on to become National Champions.
Guy is currently studying for a Master’s degree in International Relations with the Politics Department at the University of Leicester. Whilst studying, he has supplemented his income by coaching not just at his local shooting range but on company corporate days throughout Leicestershire.
Speaking of his delight at receiving the award, Guy Hoh said: "I have really enjoyed my time at the University of Leicester and have made lots of lifelong friends. This Award is an unexpected bonus from trying hard to do well in something I thoroughly enjoy.
"I believe strongly that University life is not just about academic work, but sport and social activities as well. International students can get more out of going abroad to study if they give everything a try. Commitment to the sport of shooting has been great and I hope every person from home coming to university in the UK has the same great opportunities that I have had."
After graduating at the end of September 2000, Guy returns to Singapore to complete three months National Service as well as keeping up his shooting expertise.
