Photo Opportunities during World Record Attempt at the University of Leicester
With less than a week to go students from Leicester University Theatre are gearing up for their five-day Shakespeare Marathon.
Due to begin on Monday May 1 the intrepid group of thespians will recite all of the great playwright’s works back-to-back and in chronological order.
In what is believed to be a world-record attempt three students will attempt to participate in all forty plays - a feat which necessitates them spending both days and nights in the Students’ Union building.
The students’ gargantuan efforts have received substantial and prestigious support from Lord Attenborough, who described the fast-approaching event as ‘a splendid and extravagant folly’, and the Leicester Haymarket Theatre who have generously allowed the students to draw on their extensive range of Shakespearean costumes and props.
Commercial sponsorship of the marathon will go towards financing a Leicester University Theatre trip to Lithuania in the summer as part of the international festival Shakespeare Youth 2000.
