Music for Summer Evenings

April 2002

No 80

Summer weather may sometimes disappoint, but Leicestershire music lovers can forget wind and rain and immerse themselves in a packed programme of concerts at the University of Leicester.

Regular concert-goers will also look forward with pleasure to Robert Kennyís "Music for a May Night" and the University Wind Band with the University big Band Ė two evenings that promise to be lively and entertaining.

Three orchestral and choral concerts from the University Sinfonia, the University Orchestra, Choir and Singers feature much-loved classics including Griegís Piano Concerto, music from the Peer Gynt suites, Coplandís ballet suite Rodeo, music by Mozart, Haydn and Mendelssohn, with an evening of American music from the chamber choir Cantamici.

If itís son, salsa and cha cha cha that get your feet tapping then Cubanito (13 June) is definitely the evening for you, while jazz enthusiasts can look forward to Time for Jazz, a showcase presented by international Steinway artist, jazz composer and pianist Richard Fairhurst with younger disciples.
