September 2000

No 180

University of Leicester Educational & Development Support Centre (EDSC) and the Students’ Union are organising various events to publicise World Mental Health Day on Tuesday, 10 October.

An event which might be of interest is that being organised by Emma Hamilton, Vice-President Education & Welfare - a Balloon Launch at 12.30pm on the day from outside Queen’s Hall, Percy Gee Building. Staff, students and visitors can buy as many balloons as they wish at 50p each from Students’ Union Reception, on sale from Monday, 2 October. Proceeds to the Mental Health Foundation.

For every 3 purple balloons launched, there will be 1 pink balloon - highlighting the fact that 1 person in every 4 is likely to develop a mental health problem at some time in their lives. The balloon which travels the furthest distance will win its owner a £100 food voucher from Jacksons Superstore on Queens Road, who have also arranged for everyone who buys a balloon to receive a free goodie bag!
