[Press and Public Relations] Star Crossed Lovers Reinterpreted On Leicester Stage

November 2001

No 165

The University of Leicester Theatre (LUT) will present one of Shakespeare’s best-loved plays in a new and exciting interpretation.

Hal Iggulden directs Romeo and Juliet, the classic love story set in turn of the century Sicily. As the director of last year’s sell out production of Macbeth, Mr Iggulden hopes to give the tragedy of the two ill-fated young lovers, a fast-paced and compact feel. At the same time it promises to retain the beautiful language and emotion, essential to a performance of this most tragic love story.

A special preview performance will take place on Tuesday 6 November 2001 at 5.30 pm. Other performances are Wednesday 7 November – Saturday 10 November at 7.30 pm.

Performances will take place at the University of Leicester Attenborough Theatre in the Attenborough Tower, at the main University Campus, University Road, Leicester. Tickets for Romeo and Juliet, priced at £4.00 (£ 3.50 concessions and £3.00 LUT members) are available in advance from Front of House in Queens Hall Foyer (on campus) 12 – 2pm weekdays, University Bookshop, Credit Card Bookings 0116 252 2000 or on the door.

Note to editors: Special press tickets are available for all shows (inc. Tuesday 6th November Special Preview at 5.30pm). For press tickets or further details please contact Chloe Theobald, Marketing Officer, University of Leicester Theatre (LUT), telephone 07855 456 443 or 0116 292 7423.
