Education at the University from 1967-1981. A
leading figure in the Government’s Russell Report on Adult Education in
England, he was awarded the CBE.
John Benyon, Director of the Leicester Institute of Lifelong Learning, said:
Jones was a remarkable man, full of energy and enthusiasm, and with a quick wit
and strong sense of humour. He
established the University of Leicester at the forefront of adult education and
campaigned tirelessly for what we now call lifelong learning opportunities in
higher education. Arthur believed that

approved of our latest message - 'broaden your horizons and enrich your life.'
Professor Jones had an international reputation in his field and we aim
to build on his work and ideals.”
Jones was a major figure in adult education in Britain and abroad and played a
central role in the National Institute of Adult Continuing Education (NIACE),
members of which will be
attending the commemorative ceremony. He

retirement in 1981.
