If you want to escape the hearts and roses image of Valentine’s Day this year the University of Leicester could provide the ideal antidote.

As part of the Leicester Comedy Festival and a celebration of the University’s 80th Anniversary, Stamford Hall Junior Common Room is presenting an evening of stand-up comedy with the inimitable Men in Coats, winner of the BBC New Comedian of the Year 2001 Alan Carr and the Canadian Phil Nichol, described as “comedy banshee on the loose”.

President of Stamford Hall, University of Leicester student Stuart D Ponting said: “The Comedy Night is another example of our thriving Hall life and we are proud to celebrate the University’s anniversary with such a sensational event”

The evening at Stamford Hall, Stoughton Drive South, Oadby, kicks off with a formal dinner at 7 pm, followed by the comedy acts between 9.00 and 11.30 pm. The event is open to the public. Tickets to the after-dinner comedy cost £6 (£2 concession).  They are available from Mary Ridgway at Stamford Hall Tel 0116 271 5875 from 1 February 2002.
