Engineering student Franklin Neo is celebrating national ‘Bike to Work Day’ in style at the University of Leicester.
Franklin is the winner of a competition organised by University catering manager Nick Robinson. He will receive his prize - an 18 gear mountain bike - but will only be able to ride it for a few days before he flies home to Singapore for the summer vacation. His bike will be looked after by the University until his return.
“I love cycling and Leicestershire has excellent cyclepaths. I will look forward to being back on the bike in September for a trip to Rutland Water,” said Franklin.
Mr Robinson added: “We are all being encouraged to cycle to work on ‘Bike to Work’ day which is part of the Millennium cycling festival. I can cycle virtually all of the six miles to the University on cycle paths from my home in Leicestershire.”
The bike, which has been donated by the competition’s sponsors, soft drinks company Britvic, is being presented to Franklin by University Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor John Beeby at 12.30 pm on Tuesday June 20 in front of the Fielding Johnson building.
