[Press & Publications] 'BARDATHON' RAISES MONEY FOR CANCER RESEARCH [Students]

June 2000

Members of Leicester University Theatre (LUT), presented a cheque for £500 to the Leicester based Institute for Cancer Research.

The money was raised during the world record attempt at staging all of Shakespeare’s 40 plays, sonnets, poems and other writings. These were performed non-stop by the students at the University of Leicester.

Proceeds from the marathon funded a Leicester University Theatre trip to the Shakespeare Youth 2000 Festival in Lithuania, with the remainder being presented to Professor Will Steward, Head of Oncology at the University, based at the Leicester Royal Infirmary.

Mike Lahiffe won the award for Best Supporting Actor at the festival.
