No 248

The University of Leicester Richard Attenborough Centre (RAC) is launching a new evening concert series presenting the very best of young British-based musical talent.

HSBC Commercial Service and Sales Centre will exclusively sponsor four concerts per year for three years under the banner, A New Musical Generation. The opening recital, on Saturday, November 23, will be given by guitar duo the Katona Twins, whose career has already taken them to major venues in Europe and North America. Also featuring in the 2002/3 season will be baritone Håkan Vramsmo and two recent finalists from the BBC Young Musicians Competition, oboist Elizabeth Couling and trumpeter Alison Balsom.

During the summer HSBC relocated its Commercial Service and Sales Centre from various city centre sites to De Montfort Street, just round the corner from the RAC. Steven Pegg, Development Officer at the RAC, said: "HSBC has branded itself as 'The World's Local Bank'. Through their involvement with the RAC and their support for this exciting new initiative, we greatly look forward to having them as our neighbours and to working closely with them."

John Curtis, Head of Customer Services at HSBC, spoke of looking forward to a "profitable partnership" for both the Richard Attenborough Centre and HSBC over the next three years. Communications Manager Andy Milner added, "High quality people are at the heart of our business, especially here in Leicester where we are one of the largest employers. HSBC's sponsorship of concerts at the Richard Attenborough Centre will be an ideal way for the bank to put back into the community locally while enjoying an ongoing association with quality and talent."
