Obituary: Mr Peter Donaldson
The University has learnt, with regret, of the death on Friday, September 6 of Peter Donaldson, economist, radio and television broadcaster, aged 67. Mr Donaldson was a Lecturer in the University of Leicester's Department of Economics from 1960-64.
Peter Donaldson's Guide to the British Economy, a standard schools and university textbook, and Worlds Apart: The Economic Gulf Between Nations resulted in an increase in media coverage, including radio and television broadcasting. He presented the BBC radio series, Managing the Economy and Affluence and Inequality, Affluence and Inequality, and, in 1984, a Channel 4 series, A Question of Economics.
After lecturing at Leeds and Leicester and on a Commonwealth scheme at Osmania University in Hyderabad, he returned to Oxford in 1967 as a tutor at Ruskin College, having previously read, on an open scholarship, politics, philosophy and economics at Balliol. A man of many interests, he remained at Ruskin until his retirement.
He is survived by his wife, Sheila, and his three children.
