Obituary: Glenda Lee
It was with great sadness that the University learnt of the untimely death of Glenda Lee on
Monday, August 25, 2003.
Glenda joined the University on May 1, 2002 and, as the newly-appointed Head of the Equal Opportunities and Staff Welfare Division, rapidly built a wide range of contacts across the University and within the higher education sector.
Glenda’s zest for life and strong personality came through in the energy and determination that she displayed in pressing forward with our commitment toward achieving greater diversity in our work force.
Glenda’s wide ranging experience as an Equal Opportunities specialist covered an extensive period in local government as well as working as an independent consultant prior to accepting the challenge of the Higher Education sector.
Her presence was felt much wider than the University and she played significant roles in numerous local organisations including the Leicester African-Caribbean Business Association, the Caribbean Carnival and the Somali, Asian and African-Caribbean women’s groups.
Her warmth and humour will be long remembered by many colleagues and in particular by those to whom she provided help and support at difficult times.
Glenda achieved much in her career and our thoughts and sympathies extend to her family, who must sorely miss her strength and character.
