Death notice: Mr William Smith

The University has learnt, with regret, of the death on Friday, October 4 of Mr William Smith. Mr Smith was a third-year student reading for a BA in History and Politics.

A spokesperson for the Department of Politics said: "The Politics Department is greatly saddened by the news of the death of William Smith. Will was a well-liked, promising student who in the past two years had performed very consistently in Politics. There was every expectation that he would have graduated next summer with a good degree. His death is a great blow to the University, the Politics Department and to all who knew him. Our sympathy and thoughts are with his family and friends at this most difficult time for them."

A spokesperson for the Department of History said: "Will got on well with staff and students in the Department of History and was always pleasant, polite and courteous. He approached his studies with a conscientious attitude and had successfully completed the first two years of his course. He had developed a keen interest in British and American twentieth century history in particular. He will be sadly missed."
