University's Educational Development and Support Centre achieves Matrix recognition

The Educational Development and Support Centre (EDSC) at the University of Leicester whose constituent units include the AccessAbility Centre; Careers Service; Counselling Service; Teaching & Learning Unit; Welfare Service; and Student Sick Bay, has recently achieved accreditation under the nationally recognised Matrix Quality Standard.

The Matrix Quality Standard is a framework for the development of quality systems in relation to information, advice and guidance services.

The EDSC is the first campus-based Higher Education body in the UK to achieve Matrix accreditation as an integrated support and development service for students and staff.

Following a rigorous assessment process, which included individual interviews with over 25 service clients and 20 members of staff, the Guidance Accreditation Board Assessor was pleased to confirm successful achievement of the Standard on December 10, 2003.

EDSC Director, Dr. Annie Grant comments, "I am absolutely delighted that the commitment and hard work of all the EDSC staff members has been recognised in this way. This accreditation demonstrates that we are achieving our aim to support the University in its mission to offer an education of the highest quality to its undergraduate and postgraduate students".
