One of the first students to graduate in January 2003 from the MSc in the Management of Quality Excellence programme at the University, Colin presented findings from his Dissertation Project on Supply-Chain Performance within Control Systems to a panel of judges at the Institute’s headquarters in London on Friday, October 17.

Colin is a Quality Manager at Rolls-Royce Control Systems based in Bristol and is pictured after receiving his award.

The Centre of Quality Excellence

The Centre of Quality Excellence at the University of Leicester was established in January 2002 to reflect the growth of research and teaching activity in Quality Excellence within the University and its desire to develop this area further. There has been a Quality Excellence group at Leicester since 1998 when Professor Tony Bendell joined the University.

In particular the Centre hosts the MSc in the Management of Quality Excellence and the MSc in Customer Service Management. The former is a distance learning course that was originally developed with sponsorship from Rolls-Royce plc and has been operational since January 2000. In January 2003 the course took its first intake of students from outside the UK (from Canada, Italy, and the United States) and the Centre began to use the Internet to broadcast its seminars to the students in these countries. The course is now open to students in a large number of countries.

In October 2003 the new MSc in Customer Service Management commenced and this will be followed in October 2004 by an MSc in Engineering Management.
