Praise for conference support staff

The Vice-Chancellor Professor Robert Burgess recently hosted a very successful lunch at Gilbert Murray Hall for staff involved in providing services to conferences.

Over 100 staff attended the event where Professor Burgess recognised the importance of staff in the provision of services and expansion of the conference business. He said their efforts are much appreciated.

Director of Residential and Catering Services Tim Wragg said: "Conference income has doubled since 1999. It is now 1.4m residential income plus 600,000 other income such as bars, AVS and functions.

"The University has gained an excellent reputation for the provision of hospitality services and is driving the business to expand rapidly by investment in staff and facilities. In the last five years some 15 million has been invested in residential improvements."
