Action-packed Varsity Day
Leicester's rowers prove that it takes more than strokes of luck by winning
every rowing event
This year's Varsity Day, Wednesday, March 12, hosted by De Montfort University (DMU), saw University of Leicester's students edge out students from DMU to retain the 2003 Varsity Shield for the fourth year running. Strong performances from DMU in all sports pushed their opponents hard - and only a complete 'whitewash' in the rowing events resulted in the University of Leicester bringing home the silverware for another year.
There were straight wins for DMU in badminton and indoor cricket at both 1st and 2nd team level. The soccer teams hit back though, running out winners in three of the four ties after trailing in all the games at one time. Netball honours were shared as well as in the hockey. Leicester clinched the basketball with an 8-point margin with Dami Siyanbola voted MVP (Most Valuable Player) for the Leicester team.
An excellent day’s sporting competition across nine different sports which included climbing as a competitive activity. This University looks forward to hosting the 2004 event on its campus.
