Universities UK President takes up office
Universities UK Media Release, August 1, 2003:
Professor Ivor Crewe, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Essex, has officially taken up his role as President of Universities UK. The new president will make his inaugural speech to Universities UK members at their annual autumn conference in September at the University of Warwick.
Professor Crewe said: "I begin my presidency at a time of intense political debate over the role and value of universities to the economy and to the individual student. Professor Crewe added: "UK universities are doing an excellent job; we’re producing good graduates and world-class research. But institutions and students need more support to continue this good work - we need substantial additional investment, particularly to improve the teaching infrastructure of our universities."
