Standing on Ceremony

Cliff Dunkley (formerly of the Academic Office), through his involvement with the University degree ceremonies, developed a thorough grasp of academic ceremonial. He was invited to deliver the Gielgud Memorial Lecture to the Central Institute for Academic Dress and Ceremonial in London in February.

The Institute was founded in 1999 as a society for all with an interest in the history and use of academic ceremonial.

The Institute has a worldwide membership with representative officers in Australia, Canada and New Zealand. A bequest from the late Sir John Gielgud has endowed an annual lecture to be given at a congregation of the Institute.
