Obituary: Stephen Cawthra

The University has learnt with regret of the death from diabetes at his home in Bingham, Nottinghamshire over Easter of Stephen Cawthra, aged 33.

After graduating from this University in 1990 (BSc Geology), he spent some time in Australia before returning to qualify as a primary school teacher in Nottingham. He was a popular teacher who will be much missed by the school in which he taught as the only male teacher in a staff of 21 - Canarvon Primary School. Two new classrooms in this school are to be named after him.

Fond of sport, he was a life-long rugby league fan and had played cricket for Halifax Cricket Club (his early years were spent in Halifax). In Bingham he had set up a successful basketball team.

He leaves parents Mervyn and Christine and brother Richard.
