CASE HISTORY - CASE 5

Presentation
A 21 year old thin male patient is brought in dead on arrival, he had died in an ambulance.

History
An ambulance had been called to the airport to treat this patient who was in cardiorespiratory arrest unfortunately paramedics arrived too late to help him. It is reported by cabin crew that the patient (an asthmatic) had started experiencing severe breathing difficulties soon after the plane he was on (a flight to Ibiza) had taken off. He tried his inhalers to no avail and his pain increased as his condition deteriorated. The plane returned to the airport so that emergency help could be sought. Cabin crew also stated that the veins in his neck were bulging.
