The cause of death, as recorded on the death certificate, was listed as

1a Bilateral Bronchopneumonia
1b Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease

The clinical appearance of this manís condition was suggestive of lymphangitis carcinomatosa. However, at autopsy the main findings were those of extensive bronchopneumonia affecting both lower lobes with patchy involvement of the upper lobes. In addition, both upper lobes showed evidence of mild to moderate emphysematous changes.

There was no evidence of tumour within the lungs or any of the other organs examined.
