The kidney section on the right has been stained with Congo Red to show amyloid within vessel walls.
- Both kidneys had smooth capsules which stripped easily to reveal a smooth surface.
- On slicing the cortical area of the upper pole of the right kidney was very pale; elsewhere the cortex showed a general pale streaky pattern (see pictures below).
- Ureters and bladder were normal.
- The ovaries were normal.
- The uterus contained a well-circumscribed tumour 4cm diameter. On sectioning, this tumour had a smooth white appearance (see picture).
- The cervix was normal.
