- The mouth, tongue, oropharynx, oesophagus, small and large intestine appeared normal.
- The liver weighed 1.4kg with a smooth capsule. On sectioning, the typical 'nutmeg' pattern of chronic passive venous congestion was identified (see image). No focal lesions were present.
- Gall bladder contained bile and a single pigment stone (0.8 cm diameter). Bile flowed freely to the duodenum.
- Pancreas had a normal appearance.
- Peritoneal cavity was normal without ascites.
