Following the good example of all the other counties in England, a series of publications of historical records relating to the county of Leicestershire has begun. The first volume is Parish Government in a Leicestershire Village. The Buckminster Town Book 1665-1767 and Constable’s Book 1753-1813 edited by Alan Fox, published in 2015: more details can be found here. The series is sponsored and supported by the Leicestershire Archaeological and Historical Society, and volumes as they are prepared will be distributed through the Society. Members, both individuals and institutions, will be encouraged to buy volumes, and they will be advertised and distributed by the Society more generally. It is hoped that future volumes will include editions of the Leicestershire Hundred Rolls of 1279-80, and of one of the Hearth Taxes of the late seventeenth century. Anyone who has an idea for a volume, especially if they are willing to prepare an edition, should make their suggestion to Professor Chris Dyer of the Centre for English Local History of the University of Leicester.
Further details will be posted here and in the Society's Newsletter.
