1.De Wizenburg

1 Wissembourg

1.1    In Wissembourg were found 400 iurnales of the manor, 200 meadows, with 58 farmsteads.

1.2    In the months of July and August each one owes service one day a week. After these two months they owe service one day a week and send 1 man to work in the vineyards; 2 to plough iurnales. Each one pays 100 poles and 1 measure of timber, 17 chickens and 15 eggs. Above and beyond that they owe a fortnight’s service once a year. Once a year they also help make wine in Unkenstein. They supply two horses to the army, give barefrida to the servants of the king, and likewise owe service to the abbot here and in the neighbouring mansion [i.e. Altenstadt].

1.3    In the aforementioned 58 farmsteads there are 12 who each owe 1 pictura. The women make cloth 10x4 cubits and if they don’t they must give 5 chickens.

2. De Veteri Villa

2 Altenstadt

2.1    By Altenstadt lie 44 farmsteads pertaining to the work of the lord abbot, of which every owners pays by order as follows…: for pruning 5 denarii; for digging up vines 10 denarii; for digging them up anew 4 denarii; for binding vines 3 denarii; for cutting back hay 6 denarii; for collecting hay the work is sufficient; at harvest time the work is sufficient; for pressing grapes the work is sufficient; for preparing wine vessels the work is sufficient; for gathering grapes the work is sufficient; 1 schar, 4 chickens, 6 eggs; for removing vines the work is sufficient; for the keeping of captive thieves [careful concern] (but they are meanwhile to abstain from work).

2.2    Except for 24 farmsteads, which lie by other parts of the river, they must pay the abbot 50 roof tiles and ½ a cartload of wood, and 2 cartloads [of wood] to the keeper of the storeroom. The other farmsteads, which lie next to other parts of the river, pay the abbot 100 roof tiles and 1 cartload [of wood].

2.3   Hoc autem sciendum, quod tres ex istis hůbis persolvunt tantum  dies ad omne opus abbatis. Item sciendum, quod tres ex ipsis singule persolvunt .III. pullos et dimidium schar.

2.3    It is however known that 3 of these farmsteads pay everything in terms of work for the abbot. It is also known that 3 of these farmsteads make a single payment of 3 chickens and ½ a schar.

2.4   The farmstead of Hazzeche securim et achiam. Indeed this has 1 part of work and the working on vomeres, ploughing 3 fields and making bricks. In this work Hugo pays for the materials for the hilltops and in other homes. The farmstead of Amelungi pays 2 uncia, and hitherto remains the farmstead of Hugo and Hunfrid. Oggerus pays 1 vomerus and Hugo pays 2. In the home of Vocwin 1, his son Hertwic 1, Eberold and his son Heinric 1, Gunter 1, Marquard 1, Mehtilt and his wife Gerwini 1, Hertericus 1, Sifridus 1, Wernherus 1, Silfridus and Billung and Helwic 1.

3. De Clingen

3 Klingen

3.1   In Klingen there are 420 iurnales of the manor, 7 cartloads of wine, 60 meadows, and 31 farmsteads.

They make 1 tribute of suckling pig at Easter, 2 chickens, 15 eggs, 3 men to plough iurnales. Whenever work needs doing, each man is to proceed to the monastery with his plough. They owe 2 cows for the army with ½ a plough and 1 man. For the service of the king in a year ½ a plough or 10 denarii.

4 Leinsweiler

4.1   In Leinsweiler there are [...] iurnales of the manor, 25 cartloads of wine, 100 meadows, and 33 farmsteads. And each one owes 3 days a week and 16 of them owe 3 chickens. 2 to plough iurnales, and to proceed [to the monastery] with their plough by order. Their wives provide cloth 5x4 cubits. 17 farmsteads in Autumn are to plough 3 iurnales, 2 in Winter, and are to pay 5 chickens and 15 eggs. Among these 17 are 12 who at Easter each make 1 tribute of suckling pig, while the wives of the other 4 make cloth 5x4 cubits with shoe buckles, and the aforementioned 4 also make cloth 10x4 cubits. Grain and bread is to be prepared by order. 1 man from among them is to pay 15 liquid measures of wine.

5. De Kanteskiricha

7 Edesheim

Each of the 24 farmsteads is to give 1 tribute of suckling pig. Each of the aforementioned 13 who deliver wine owes 5 chickens and 15 eggs and 11 alternately owe 3 chickens one year and 2 chickens the next plus 15 eggs. 3 times a year they are to proceed with their carriages, and in Autumn each one, apart from 6, must plough 3 iurnales, and likewise in Spring, while the aforementioned 13 are to plough 2 iurnales in Autumn and Spring. Their wives make cloth of 10 cubits with shoe buckles. They pay 2 cows for the army with ½ a plough and 1 man, and pro pice for the service of the king they are to give 10 denarii or ½ a plough.

8. De Heriesheim

There are 9 farmsteads, each of which owe a fortnight’s service 4 times a year and 1 day’s service each week. They are to plough 3 iurnales in Autumn and 2 iurnales in Spring. And 6 from among them each owe 1 fattened pig or 5 solidi or 15 liquid measures of wine; 3 more owe 30 denarii; and 4 owe 1 uncia. They are to collect in grain and hay. Three times a year they are to proceed with their plough [to the monastery]. At Easter, each farmstead owes 1 tribute of suckling pig or 9 denarii, 5 chickens and 15 eggs. The women are to make ½ linen cloth with special thread or pay 1 solidi. 1 cow is owed for the army with ½ a plough and 1 man.

9. De Otteresheim

Each farmstead makes a tribute of 1 suckling pig at Easter and 3 pigs in Winter. 6 farmsteads are to be vigilant. Twice a year they are to proceed with their plough. All 60 for the royal peace owe 2 unciae or 2 plough. Each one owes 5 chickens, 15 eggs, and 4 cows for the army, with 3 men and 2 mares. To the royal palace, each and everyone is to proceed in turn twice and bring oblations, except those 6 who owe guard duty. Each and everyone is to make fences for their part and, when there is work, they are to improve the building of the manor. At harvest time they are to collect up hay and grain. They are to pay barefrida for the service of the king and abbot in their provinces. Their wives are to prepare bread and beer.

When there will not be fattening in Winter, 2 pigs are to be suckled. 2 cows with ½ a plough and 1 man are to be given for the army. They are to proceed with boats whenever they are to be, and to improve and to build the building of the manor, and they are to collect up all of the hay. And from 1 home of 1 man 5 liquid measures of wine, 5 chickens and 15 eggs; at harvest time he is to serve for 3 days with his horse.
