Completed in 1961, the George Porter Building was designed by Architects Co-Partnership and is home to the Department of Chemistry. George Porter received the Nobel Prize for Chemistry in 1967, was knighted in 1972 and was Chancellor of the University from 1986 to 1995, during which time he was made a life peer.

Interesting fact: George Porter presented the 1965 television series The Laws of Disorder.
