Opened in December 1977, the Medical Science Building was designed by WF Johnson and Partners. It was later renamed in honour of Sir Maurice Shock, former rector of Lincoln College, Oxford and an expert on political science, who served as Vice-Chancellor at Leicester from 1977 to 1987.

Interesting fact: With 19,000sqm of floor-space, the Maurice Shock MSB is the largest building on campus.
