Collection history

The Clive Harrison collection contains 6 interviews undertaken by Clive Harrison in 1997 as research for his book "In Sickness and in Health" which looks at health care provision in the city and county of Leicester and Leicestershire during the first half of the 20th century.

What the collection contains

The collection includes conversations with doctors, nurses and patients who talk about their different perspectives and experiences of health care in Leicester before the arrival of the National Health Service in 1947. Nurse training, nursing during the Second World War and health visiting are among the topics covered.
