The Life and Times of George Orwell 1903-50: A moral history of the first
half of the 20th century
Staff Contact:
Dr R. Colls (Att.801)
Orwell was passionately English
and a stubborn political dissenter as well.
His devotion to the cause - of England or dissent - stemmed from
the same deep-lying principles and beliefs.
Through his novels and essays we will get closer to the man and,
through him, the moral history of the first half of the 20th century.
The course will be taught through seminars.
Students will be expected to come to seminars having done the preparatory
reading and ready to engage in discussion and debate.
