Annual General Meeting 1997: Minutes
The meeting was held in King's Manor, York at 4 p.m. on 7th June 1997.

The minutes of the 1996 AGM were read and approved.
The Council's proposals for President and Councillors were accepted: Diana Whaley was re-elected as President. Andrew Hamer, John Hines, Heather O'Donoghue, and Rosemary Power were elected as as Councillors (to serve, subject to re-election, until 2000). Lesley Abrams, Bridget Morris, Richard North, David Reid were re-elected as Councillors (to serve, subject to re-election, until 1999). Loren Auerbach, David Parsons, John Townsend and Andrew Wawn were re-elected as Councillors until 1998. Ian Hare was re-elected as Honorary Auditor.
The audited accounts for year ending September 30th 1996 were accepted.
A revised version of the Law-Book, agreed by Council, was ratified.

Meetings 1996-97

Autumn: Friday 1st November 1996, at University College, London. Professor Stefán Karlsson: The localisation and dating of medieval Icelandic manuscripts. Stefán Karlsson was Guest of Honour at the Society's Annual Dinner the same evening.

Spring: Friday 7th March 1997, at University College, London. Dr Orri Vésteinsson: New Approaches to the Settlement of Iceland.

Summer: Saturday 7th June 1997, in King's Manor, York. Dr Katrina Attwood: "Mín ófríð verk risu opt á móti þínum blíðum boðum": Harmsól and the Old Norse Literature of Penance. (Preceded by AGM - minutes above).

A Student Day Conference was also held at the English Faculty Building, Oxford, on Saturday 3rd March 1997, organised by Heather O'Donoghue. Speakers were David Ashurst, Judith Jesch, Carolyne Larrington, Andrew Wawn, and Örnólfur Thorsson.

Meetings 1997-98

Autumn: Friday 24th October 1997, University College London. Professor Margaret Clunies Ross: Old Icelandic literature as myth. Professor Clunies Ross will be Guest of Honour at the Society's Annual Dinner the same evening.

Spring: Friday 13th March 1998, University College London. Speaker: Dr Svanhildur Óskarsdóttir.

Summer: Saturday 30th May 1998, Durham. Speaker: Dr Diana Whaley.

Student Conference: A day conference for students and any interested members of the society will be held, probably in Leeds in the spring.

Colloquium for teachers of Old Norse-Icelandic: it is hoped that a colloquium will be held during the course of the academic year, in London.

Publications in Preparation
Apart from the Saga-Book, the following are currently in preparation: translations, with commentaries, of Historia Norwegiae and Theodoricus' Historia are well advanced, and a handbook of Old Norse-Icelandic grammar and texts is in progress. A reprint of Hervarar saga ok Heiðreks will be available shortly.
