Student's Union Awarded Sound Impact Silver

Students' Union win Sound Impact Silver Award for their environmental sustainability work this year.

Students’ unions are leading the way in greening campuses and communities across the UK, according the latest findings of NUS’s green scheme.

The Sound Environmental Impact Awards seek to capture the positive green innovations in students’ unions and promote them to the general public.

The University of Leicester Students' Union managed to improve their performance this year by 100 points and was awarded Silver. Notable environmental improvements were a carbon neutral Freshers' Fair powered with Biofuel to being of the lead Unions in the UK that helped launch the national 10:10 Scheme.

Campaigns & Involvement Officer, Owen Jones, Said "this is great honour for the Union, and is always nice to be noted for the hard work the Union and the Green Volunteers put towards environmental sustainability. Next year with the new Percy Gee Building we hope to gain the Gold Award, placing us in the top 5 environmental sustainable Unions in the country"

Max Cawthorn, Services Officer, added that "Winning Sound Impact Silver Award is a fantastic accolade which highlights the dedication of all at the Students' Union to making a positive environmental impact. Throughout our building refurbishment, green issues have been at the fore and we hope that next year gold will be on the cards when we have much greater control over our energy usage!"
