International E-learning Award: On-line Dissertation Module

Staff at the University have received another award for innovative work in e-learning from the International E-Learning Association.

The Beyond Distance Research Alliance, in collaboration with the Department of Politics and International Relations and Nichola Hayes of the Course Design and Development Unit, has won a major international e-learning award as a result of the design of the online Dissertation Module of the MA in International Politics.

The International E-Learning Association (IELA) selected this module as the winner of the Academic E-learning category.

The prize was won for its highly effective and innovative e-tivity-based design, a key component of the Salmon 5-stage model. The e-tivities designed for this module incorporate Web 2.0 technologies such as blogs and wikis to scaffold learners towards a structured path to a coherent, interesting and viable dissertation topic.

The Dissertation Module is part of a highly successful suite of distance learning courses in International Relations at Leicester. The adaptability and success of the Dissertation Module has seen it adopted by other distance learning departments at the university. It is also available as a fully repurposable open educational resource as an output of the BDRA's OTTER project.

The Dissertation Module is the result of successful collaboration between departments, services and individuals, including valuable input from the Library and SSDS. This prize illustrates what can be achieved by drawing upon skills and experience available within the University.

Please visit the distance learning pages of the Department of Politics and International Relations for further details on this and other modules on offer.
