Leicester Professor elected at Cambridge

Professor Brian J Ford, Visiting Professor at Leicester, has been been elected President of the Society for the Advancement of Research at Cambridge University, replacing the outgoing Sir Sam Edwards (from Swansea). He has also been elected President of the Association of Past Students at Cardiff University.

Professor Brian J Ford, Visiting Professor at the Beyong Distance Research Alliance at Leicester, has this week been been elected President of the Society for the Advancement of Research at Cambridge University, replacing the outgoing Sir Sam Edwards (from Swansea). Sir Sam was formerly Chairman of the Science Research Council and Director of the Cavendish laboratory at Cambridge.

Brian is a prominent research scientist with special interests in the internet and in distance learning. He is widely known for his 30-odd books, published in many countries, and also for radio and television appearances. he has recently been featuring in 'The Man Behind the da Vinci Code' and 'Is She really Going Out with Him?' on international television.

He has also been elected President of the Association of Past Students at Cardiff University. Recent guest speakers at the APS include Baron Neil Kinnock, the singer Bryn Terfel and actor Phil Madoc.

Brian has just returned from a lecture tour around Africa and is shortly due to lecture in Singapore and the United States.
