Dr Meike Vogler

New Lecturer in the Department of Biochemistry

Dr Meike Vogler has joined the Department of Biochemistry

Having completed her first degree in Human Biology at the University of Greifswald, Germany, Dr Vogler went on to undertake her PhD at the University of Ulm, Germany, in 2006. During her PhD she became interested in studying the potential of inducing cell death as a novel approach to cancer therapy. Meike followed this up as a postdoc with Prof Gerry Cohen, MRC Toxciology Unit, here in Leicester. Later on in 2010 she became an Investigator Scientist in his group.

As a Lecturer in the Department of Biochemistry, Dr Vogler hopes to continue her research on BCL2 proteins, which are important for regulating cancer cell death and may therefore be very promising targets for the development of novel cancer therapeutics. She works closely with clinical colleagues particularly in haematology to translate her research findings into better treatment options for cancer patients.
