Life Drawing and Sculpture workshops

Embrace Arts workshops suitable for beginners and experienced

Issued 13 September 2010

Embrace Arts, the University of Leicester’s arts centre, is offering both beginners and those with experience the chance to participate in two forthcoming exciting workshop experiences.

Interested in having a go at Sculpture? From block to garden is your chance to carve a piece of sculpture to take home with you.

Want to practise life drawing with a real model? Life Drawing encourages learners to carefully observe and appreciate the proportion, tone and form of the model to create vibrant, interesting work.

Life Drawing is a one day workshop on Saturday 25 September. Led by Leicester based artist, Diane E Hall, who is also a member of the G8 group who exhibit locally, learners will work with a real model to explore the exciting potential of life drawing using a variety of approaches and media.

From block to garden is a rare opportunity to carve a piece of art to take home.

The 2 day workshop on Saturday 2 and Sunday 3 October is led by Austin Orwin, an exhibitor at the acclaimed international sculpture exhibition ‘Sculpture in the Garden 2010’ at the University of Leicester Botanic Garden. Taking inspiration from a variety of sources, ranging from Easter Island and sculptures from Ancient Civilisations to Barbara Hepworth, this practical course will teach basic techniques of carving and refining a form and show how to translate an idea on paper into a finished sculpture carved from an aerated cement block.

Suitable for beginners and those with experience both workshops run from 10am to 3.30pm. Life Drawing costs £35/£17 and From block to garden is just £60/£30 for the two days which includes the cost of all materials although participants are asked to bring their own gloves. Participants must be at least 16 years old.

Workshops are held at Embrace Arts, Richard Attenborough centre, Lancaster Road, Leicester LE1 7HA. Spaces on workshops are limited. Booking in advance is required on 0116 252 2455 or visit
